Guidance to school governing bodies on school uniform and appearance policies – Submit your comments by 21 February 2019

This consultation seeks views on the affordability, access and availability of school uniforms, gender-neutral uniforms and school uniform items for extreme weather conditions.

Changes to target setting requirements on schools – Submit your comments by 08 March 2019

Consulting on the proposed changes to the current school target setting requirements for pupils in year 11 at Key Stage 4. The changes are intended to align school target setting requirements with the interim changes to Key Stage 4 performance measures

Draft professional standards for assisting teaching – Submit your comments by 14 March 2019

Draft proposals that:

  • provide a single set of standards for all teaching assistants and higher level teaching assistants
  • clarify the roles of teaching assistant and higher level teaching assistant
  • support career-long professional learning

Draft additional learning needs code – Submit your comments by 22 March 2019

The additional learning needs (ALN) statutory framework replaces legislation on special education needs and the assessment of children and young people with learning difficulties and/or disabilities in post-16 education and training. Consulting on:

  • the draft ALN code
  • draft regulations relating to the Education Tribunal for Wales and ALN co-ordinators
  • revisions to the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014 Part 6 Code of Practice – Looked After and Accommodated Children.

Our National Mission: A Transformational Curriculum – Submit your comments by 25 March 2019

Consulting on the legislative framework to facilitate the new curriculum’s implementation. This includes:

  • The purpose and structure of the curriculum
  • The Welsh and English languages
  • Relationships and Sexuality Education for 3 to 16 year olds
  • Religious Education for 3 to 16 year olds
  • Right to withdraw from RE and RSE
  • The assessment of learners.

This consultation focuses on the legislative framework for the curriculum. The detailed content of the new curriculum will be published in April 2019 for all schools to feedback and refine.

Draft guidance on relationships and sexuality education – Submit your comments by 1 April 2019

Consulting on the draft update of relationships and sexuality guidance, which would:

  • change the name of the area of study from ‘Sex and Relationships Education’ to ‘Relationships and Sexuality Education’ (RSE)
  • support schools to structure RSE more closely to the way it will work in the new curriculum
  • promote a ‘whole school approach’ which links provision, policy, staff and community to RSE.

Additional National Professional Learning INSET days 2019 to 2022 – Submit your comments by 1 May 2019

Consulting on the amendment of regulations which would allow schools to close to pupils for an additional day per year for 3 years. The proposed changes will:

  • provide additional INSET days for schools
  • increase the time available for teachers to undertake professional learning
  • support the introduction of the new curriculum
