As I sit in the early morning sunshine, soaking up the tranquility before the hustle and bustle of the day begins, I can’t help think how quickly each school year passes by. The nights are slowly drawing in now, and the autumn chill has begun to emerge late evening. School uniform and pencil cases frequent the shops! Mixed feelings prevail – the excitement of the new September start but also a longing for the summer to continue.
I know from my own experience that school staff will have spent a large proportion of the summer holiday going in to school, preparing for the new school term and beyond, not least waiting in anticipation and trepidation for GCSE and A levels results.
With the new curriculum fast approaching and the implementation of other key initiatives, there is not always much time to time or leeway to pause and reflect, particularly when you are leading a busy school. The summer provides that well-earned opportunity for us all, school staff and governors, to take a little bit of time out to recharge and reflect before September.
The newly established Governors Cymru Services offers support, guidance and advice to assist governors, head teachers and their schools, as well as local authorities. Do have a look here
